This is Declan - a cozy, worsted shortie sock worked cuff to toe, with a fun, quick, and simple waffle stitch + reverse stockinette pattern worked down the entire sock. Instructions for a short row heel are included, although you could substitute your favorite heel method. Charts are included for the toe shaping, which I love! This is the first time I’m trying out charts for this, and I think this visualization will help make it easier if you need/would like to adjust the toe shaping - please let me know your thoughts!
Declan features our Highlands base! Required yardage will vary depending on your gauge and length of leg and foot, but one 100-gram skein of yarn should be plenty no matter the size! The pattern is written for working with 9” circular needles, but could easily be converted if you prefer magic loop or DPNs.

You’ll need: US size 4 (3.5mm) and 5 (3.75mm) knitting needles (or size needed to obtain gauge) 9” circulars, DPNs or longer cable for magic loop, stitch markers, and a tapestry needle. Sock blockers and/or mats are helpful but not necessary.

Notes on sizing:
This pattern is written for 4 sizes, ranging from 6.5-9.25 in/16.5-23.5 cm finished sock foot circumference. It is recommended to choose a size that gives about 1 in/2.5 cm negative ease for a snug but comfortable fit. The sample size 2 (7.5 in/19 cm) is shown on an 8.5 in/21.5 cm foot. Let me know if you have any questions about sizing!
Pattern gauge:
4”/10 cm = 20 sts/30 rounds in waffle stitch texture pattern
Using US size 5 (3.75mm) needles, worked in the round.
Note: All measurements are approximate and taken after blocking. Inches are rounded to the nearest 0.25 in and centimeters to the nearest 0.5 cm.
