The Lydia Socks are a short crew-length design, featuring the same lace motif as Lydia 2.0, with the twisted purl columns continuing down the top of the foot similarly to the body of the tank. It is worked cuff down and uses the same tubular cast on as Lydia 2.0 (which I have a tutorial for), a heel flap and gusset construction, and an optional color change for the toe. Yardage will vary depending on gauge and the length of the foot, but one 100-gram skein of sport weight yarn should be great regardless of the size you make; the sample shows a contrasting toe if you have any leftovers hanging around! To alter the size of the sock slightly, you can simply switch up your yarn weight and/or needle size as desired. The pattern is written for working with 9” circular needles, but could be converted if you prefer magic loop or DPNs.

Details:

  • Intermediate level

  • Written in English and US terms

  • Skills to know: Tubular/provisional cast on, work in the round, knit, purl, increase, decrease, twisted decreases and stitches, heel flap and gusset, pick up and knit, Kitchener stitch

  • You’ll need: US size 2 (2.75mm) knitting needles (or size needed to obtain gauge) 9” circulars, DPNs or longer cable for magic loop, waste yarn and crochet hook for provisional cast on, stitch markers, and a tapestry needle. Sock blockers and/or mats are very helpful but not necessary for blocking

  • One 100-gram skein of sport weight yarn (our 100 % Superwash Merino Hearth base was used for the sample in the Gingerbread and Sugar Maple colorways); check out others’ projects on Ravelry for more yarn/fiber/color inspiration!

You’ll receive a PDF file including:

  • Complete written instructions on how to knit the Lydia Socks in 5 different sizes

  • Both written and charted instructions included for the lace section

  • Links to helpful tutorials, including the tubular cast on used for the sample

  • A short photo guide showing how the sample was blocked + lace before/after photos

Notes on sizing:

This pattern is written for 5 sizes, ranging from 6-10 in/15-25.5 cm finished sock foot circumference. It is recommended to choose a size that gives about 1-2 in/2.5-5 cm negative ease for a snug but comfortable fit. The sample size 2 (7 in/18 cm) is shown on an 8 in/20.5 cm foot. Let me know if you have any questions about sizing!

Pattern gauge:

4”/10 cm = 30 sts/45 rounds in stockinette worked in the round

Taken after wet blocking, using US size 2 (2.75mm) needles

Note: All measurements are approximate and taken after blocking. Inches are rounded to the nearest 0.25 in and centimeters to the nearest 0.5 cm.
