Inspired by Daenerys and her dragons from the Game of Thrones series, Dany is a fitted, cropped tank with a halter/racerback look. It begins with a beautiful tubular cast on and twisted ribbing that flows seamlessly into a diagonal ribbing pattern, splitting off from a center ‘spine’ of twisted knits to create a beautiful texture and fit. It also features a V-neck in front leading up into wide straps that overlap at the center back. This design is worked flat from the bottom up in two panels, then blocked and seamed. The twisted ribbing does take time, so find your most pointed needles that are nice and comfortable for your hands, and really just take your time with this one! Huge shout out and thank you to Sheena of Casual Fashion Queen for collaborating with me on this project to create an incredible colorway inspired by Daenerys (Khaleesi, shown in the sample!). She will have this colorway available in a few different bases, so please check out her website! The sample shows the 100% Untreated Merino Sport base, which was such a joy to work with (and to wear!). Thank you so much to Sheena for providing the yarn for this sample as well!
NOTE: During testing, there were issues with the strap length (affecting the armhole depth) that were corrected after a majority of testers had finished or passed that point in the pattern. Some testers were ok with it, others adjusted it, so I just wanted to be clear and let you know that as you’re looking through their projects and photos on Ravelry and Instagram! Most if not all will have notes in their projects as well :)
Written in English and US terms

You’ll need: US size 3 (3.25mm) and US size 2 (2.75mm) needles (or sizes needed to obtain gauge, 16-32” circulars recommended, and the more pointed/not dull the better), crochet hook for provisional cast on, waste yarn for cast on and to place stitches on hold, stitch markers including 1 removable marker, and a tapestry needle. Notes on sizing:
This pattern is written for 16 sizes, ranging from 23.25-62.75 in/59-159.5 cm finished bust, with a recommended negative ease of up to about 6”/15 cm at the bust. There is no waist shaping in this design, and the ribbing pattern allows for more flexibility with the final fit. E.g. If your full bust measures 33”/84 cm, you could make size 3, 4, or even 5 depending on your preference.
Sample shown is the size 3 (28.5”/72.5 cm), worn on a 33.5”/85 cm bust (giving 5”/12.5 cm negative ease at the bust and no ease at the waist).
Dany is designed to have a cropped fit, but is easily customizable to fit your preference! Schematic with measurements included in the photo section and pattern.
There are two different gauges for this pattern
Twisted 1x1 K1TBL, P1TBL ribbing: 4”/10 cm = 30 sts/40 rows, slightly stretched (photo guide included in pattern for this) taken after wet blocking, using US size 3 (3.25mm) needles
Stockinette: 4”/10 cm = 29 sts/40 rows taken after wet blocking, using US size 2 (2.75mm) needles
All measurements are approximate and taken after blocking. Inches are rounded to the nearest 0.25 in and centimeters to the nearest 0.5 cm.
